Storytelling as shared activity
Besides involving the listeners in the story being told, it is also possible to make the telling of the story a shared activity. If you want to promote your learners' storytelling competences, telling the story together can even be the main purpose and the central activity. Read more about this in the section "" How can I promote my learners' storytelling competences? ▾Some ideas on how to develop the story and storytelling together with the learners:
- "Create" the main characters together with the group. You provide the characteristics that are relevant for the story, the shaping and "bringing to life" of the characters you do together.
- "Create" the place of the story together with the group. You provide the characteristics that are relevant for the story, the shaping and "bringing to life" of the location(s) you do together.
- Tell the story up to the climax and break off there. Now the participants work out the solution and the end of the story in pairs/small groups. These different versions of the story are then presented orally.
- Tell the story completely. Afterwards, discuss with the learners in which moments the characters had options for action, what they were and how they would have decided in this situation.
- If you work with smells, tastes, objects in the story, give the learners time to register them and ask for associations/memories they associate with them.
Can you think of other ways to make learners an active part of your story and involve their memories, imagination, creativity, feelings, opinions?
