Module -Storytelling
What can you do with your voice?
- Reveal different characters: Different characters can have different ways of talking, Little Red Riding Hood will speak and scream differently to her grandmother and, of course, the wolf.
- Express emotions: Is your hero sad or afraid – your voice will show this
- Do sound effects and involve also the listeners in this: Instead of saying “someone nkocked at the door” you can knock with your hand. Instead of saying “a dog barking in the garden” you can bark yourself. If you do some sound it is not necessary to say what it was. You can also involve your audience and, for example, have them adopt recurring sounds in an appropriately familiar and open atmosphere in the group.
Let’s do an exercise
Here are two sentences.
“What are you doing? Do you really know how to do that?”
Say these sentences
- ...as a surprised/frightened mother who sees her child building a campfire
- ...as a condescending car mechanic who sees a young woman trying to change a wheel
- ...as a fearful/concerned person who sees a friend doing something dangerous (e.g. serious first aid or repair of an electrical instalation or handling a burning pan on the stove....)
- ...as a threatening bank robber who sees a bank employee reach for the emergency button
